A police force to safeguard the country’s historical sites and other antiquities has been planned.
Prince Sultan bin Salman, president of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, will discuss the matter with Interior Minister Prince Muhammad bin Naif when he visits the commission’s office in Riyadh shortly, reports said.
“The SCTA and the Interior Ministry are currently finalizing the tourism police plan,” Prince Sultan said, adding that it would help prevent theft of antiquities. The Ministry of Defense has offered to develop the sites of all Islamic battles in the Kingdom, the prince said.
Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khaled bin Sultan made the offer during his recent visit to Madinah.
Prince Sultan noted the keenness of Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, in safeguarding the Kingdom’s heritage being a man of history. “Prince Salman had been interested in such matters even before the formation of SCTA.”
