Don’t look now but Oryx Jets has emerged as the hottest team in the league. A week before the break, Oryx Jets won another Team of the Week award, its fourth in the last five weeks in a string interrupted only by ninth Team of the Week winner Oriana Akiera Sato.
Oryx Jets now try to topple Nasser Al-Hajri at the top of the team standings as the FTBJ-ICBL 31st Conference bowling tournament resumes today for the 10th session at the Jeddah Lanes here.
Oryx Jets gained further ground on Nasser when it returned the top tally of 41 points during the ninth week with Lance & Thirdy four points adrift on 37 and Nasser on 36.
Oriana Akiera Sato and Sky Freight-TFC tied on 31 points while Jem Strikers and Taurus RDLR similarly tied on 26. Hidada Ltd. pooled 21 points while Avengers, D’ Barkads and Pin Slashers were the last three teams to check in on 17, 14 and 7 in that order.
The individual race for men’s and ladies Bowler of the Week went to Taurus’ Nap Patayan on 662 and Lance’s Shirley Sagmit on 614.
Oryx Jets poured on the heat in the final game and effectively clinched the award by posting the top overall output of 2,988. Majid Aslani did the most damage for Oryx with a sparkling series of 689 on games of 224, 232 and 233. The trio of Edu Toledo, Jeanette Cerbito and Marie Gumpal backed Aslani with rounds of 575, 554 and 534. Nick Gozun added 196-256 and Paolo Allego had 180.
Besides Sagmit the others that bowled solid for Lance were the duo of Evelyn Santoc and Marcelo Manalo who rolled 570 and 569 respectively. Ric Reformado was the other player at Lance to do full games at 569, while Esteve Historillo tallied 170-160 and Jun De Dios 171.
Nasser Al-Hajri, the first game winner who is increasingly under pressure from Oryx, had Randy Mata at the helm with 598 followed by Merlen Pamintuan 590 and Ester Jalata 520. Zaldy Bacero rolled two games (189-188) as did Bonie Garcia (173-203) and Cesar Monares (255-200).
Goying Salazar was the top scorer at Sky Freight on 592. Rod Morales supported Salazar with 577, while from the distaff side Babes Tiongson and Imelda Sayago drilled 539 and 536 to go with the 210-179 by Oca Bernabe and 169 by James Galvan.
Gerry Mandanas at 608 was among the few to top 600 as he led the Jem charge that also featured 561 from Jess Pineda, 531 from Charie Guzman, 516 from Che Bautista, 187-214 from Pancho Cuevas and 167 from Jeff San Pedro.
The day’s 600-series scorers included Oriana’s Sulaiman with 635 and Avengers’ Abet Sarte with 612.
