The current labor law states that a person cannot transfer sponsorship within two years of his or her arrival in the Kingdom. The Ministry of Labor has not clarified whether this condition/stipulation has been waived or not for the three-month grace period.
To avail the “Golden opportunity” the Labor Ministry should keep this particular condition/stipulation in abeyance, for people who are already in the Kingdom before the announcement of the grace period, then everybody can truly avail this amnesty.
There is also a report that experts feel that three months are not enough for status change, hence it may require an extension of the grace period.
I have also stated in my previous letter that cover-up businesses should not be tolerated as they deprive Saudi nationals of business opportunities and becomes a cause of friction between locals and expatriates.
This grace period, if extended due to administrative reasons such as huge backlog, should not be applicable to people who run cover-up businesses. — Omprakash Tiwari, Riyadh
