No place for pedestrians

It is a matter of great concern that some areas in Alkhobar are not safe for pedestrians as there are always exposed to the risk of being hit by speeding vehicles. As per my friend’s accounts, a couple of days back a Pakistani expatriate who was jogging in a public park was hit from behind by a speeding car. The vehicle sped away after hitting the man who fell on the ground and died at the spot.
This place known as Eid Compound in Bayoni, Alkhobar, is popular among joggers. It was sad to hear that the ambulance reached the spot after half an hour. People near the accident site also did not bother to give the victim any kind of first aid or to carry him to a nearby hospital, fearing legal hassles that are generally involved in accident cases.
I think it is high time the government took some strict measures to deal with reckless drivers so that innocent lives are not lost and they should also do something to ensure such type of hit-and-run cases do not occur in the future. This can be done by intensifying traffic patrolling. Number of police patrolling vehicles should be increased to deal with this menace. Also, camera surveillance can be done at key places to give added security to the people.
Also, emergency numbers of hospitals and police personnel should be display on big screens at all key points so that people can dial them during any emergency. In addition to this, if hospitals receive any emergency calls, they should try to reach the spot immediately and there should not be any delay from their side so that injured person’s life can be saved. — Anees Lokhande, Alkhobar
