LONDON: Police are warning that more must be done to tackle hooliganism following a spate of football-related fan violence in England at the weekend.
Police reported Monday that 36 fans linked to four matches were arrested at train and London Underground stations in the preceding two days.
Fourteen Millwall fans were also arrested inside Wembley Stadium for fighting during the FA Cup semifinal match against Wigan on Saturday, and 29 people were held in Newcastle after clashes in the streets after the derby against Sunderland.
British Transport Police chief constable Andrew Trotter says the arrests “serve as a firm and sobering reminder that there is still much more to be done in tackling football-related disorder.” BTP says Manchester City, Chelsea and Watford fans were also arrested at the weekend.
