This refers to the letter “Drone attacks OK, what about trust deficit?” by Masood Khan (April 15). It is amusing to read the arguments put forth by the writer. Khan says, “Let’s accept the fact written on the wall: Al-Qaeda or Taleban can’t be defeated by ground forces. So whatever resources/technology are at disposal shall be deployed to win the war on terror.” My question to him is: Can he give some assurances that terrorist groups will be eliminated by drone attacks? And if not, in this process, thousands of innocent children and women will become victims of these attacks, then who will be responsible for their senseless killings.
The writer himself seems to be in a dilemma.
On one hand, he is seeking elimination of terrorist groups, and on the other hand, he is indirectly calling for killing of hundreds of innocent Pakistanis including children and women. If America is projecting itself to be the world police, then why it is not playing any role to give just rights to Palestinians, where hundreds of innocent Palestinians are being killed systematically by Israeli forces which is nothing but utter terrorism. It means that the US is not sincere in its stand against unjust and terrorist activities.
And the sad aspect about drone attacks that the present government of Pakistan does not have the guts to raise its voice against innocent killings by drone attacks.
If technology cannot bring precision in its attack, then that technology must be discarded. Why innocent people should bear the brunt the brutality of negative forces all the time? I think all terrorist activities will cease, if the stops meddling in the affairs of Pakistan and let the people of Pakistan live and work without any stress. — Anees Lokhande, Alkhobar
