Victorian wins Republic Day Cup

Victorian Cricket Club scored a thrilling one-run victory over Nawabs XI to bag the Republic Day Cup cricket tournament organized by the Andhra Pradesh United Society (APUS) and Riyadh Premier League (RPL) recently.
Twenty teams participated in the 12-week tournament.
The Victorians elected to bat first and set their rivals a target of 185 for victory.
The Nawabs took up the challenge and were in the hunt till the last over during which they wanted 6 runs. However, they fell short by a run. Shahbaz led the Nawab’s fight back with a gallant knock of 87 runs.
APUS Presiddent, Ashraf Ali received the guest of honor Abdul Rehman Saleem and Muhammad Rafeeq, the sponsor of the event. RPL President Ahmed Shafiq Tamimi, Chairman Tahir bin Jaffer and Executive members Kaleem Khan, Muhammad Fahad bin Sayeed and Shakeel Sarfaraz and other guests were also present.
“We want to promote young talent in the Kingdom and also develop mutual, social and cultural interest of all NRI’s,” said Ashraf Ali.
Imperial Cricket Club’s Abdul Raoof Ali Khan got the best batsman’s award for the highest runs scored while Royal Deccan Club’s Mohammed Abdul Azeem got the best bowler’s award for the highest wickets.
APUS is a society of NRI’s in general, and of Andhra Pradesh in particular, which believes in developing a deeper understanding of community and societal progression.
