PITTSBURGH: A.J. Burnett carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and recorded his 2,000th career strikeout as host Pittsburgh cooled off St. Louis with a 5-0 victory Wednesday.
Burnett (1-2) allowed one hit — Carlos Beltran’s two-out double — and struck out eight in seven innings. He retired the first 16 Cardinals before hitting Daniel Descalso with a pitch. Neil Walker had two hits and an RBI, while Travis Snider, Gaby Sanchez and Pedro Alvarez also had run-scoring hits.
Nationals 6 Marlins: 1 Bryce Harper returned to the lineup after missing a game with the flu and contributed four hits to help visiting Washington take two out of three in the series.
Kurt Suzuki had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs, while Adam LaRoche and Stephen Lombardozzi each contributed two hits and an RBI for the Nationals. Ross Detwiler (1-0) allowed one run in seven innings while scattering seven hits and striking out six for his third straight quality start.
Brewers 4 Giants 3: Pinch hitter Blake Lalli’s slicing fly ball in the bottom of the ninth inning found the gap in deep left-center as host Milwaukee downed San Francisco for the second straight game.
Jonathan Lucroy opened the ninth with a single and Carlos Gomez followed with an infield hit with one out. Santiago Casilla (1-1) intentionally walked Yuniesky Betancourt to load the bases and Lalli delivered the game-winning hit over the heads of a drawn-in outfield.
Padres 7 Dodgers 2: Kyle Blanks, Everth Cabrera and Chris Denorfia all homered off Los Angeles ace Clayton Kershaw as visiting San Diego completed a three-game sweep.
The loss was the fourth in a row for the Dodgers, who were outscored 22-7 in the series and dropped below .500.
Royals 1 Braves 0: Wade Davis struck out seven in seven dominant innings as visiting Kansas City snapped Atlanta’s 10-game winning streak.
Davis (2-0) allowed five hits and did not walk a batter in his second straight scoreless outing. Former Brave Jeff Francoeur singled in the lone run in the fourth inning, scoring Alcides Escobar for the Royals, who split the two-game series.
Reds 11 Phillies 2: Mike Leake matched a career high with seven strikeouts, had three hits and scored three times as host Cincinnati completed a three-game sweep of Philadelphia.
Zack Cozart also had three hits — including a two-run homer — and scored three times while Brandon Phillips drove in three runs for the Reds. Leake (1-0) allowed three hits over seven scoreless innings in his best outing of the season.
Reds 1 Phillies 0: Jay Bruce delivered a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth as host Cincinnati downed Philadelphia in the completion of Tuesday’s suspended game.

After Cincinnati closer Aroldis Chapman (2-0) set Philadelphia down in order in the top of the ninth Tuesday, the scoreless draw was suspended until Wednesday after a 45-minute delay when a heavy downpour made conditions unplayable.
