ATLANTA: No matter who you are, don’t pull the “Do you know who I am?” routine with cops. Always backfires. Even for Reese Witherspoon.
The Oscar winner and her agent husband Jim Toth were both arrested early Friday in Atlanta, reports Variety — he charged with DUI, and she with disorderly conduct, after she allegedly quarreled with the officer who pulled them over.
Variety cites a police report saying that while Toth was undergoing a sobriety test, the actress hung out the car window and told the officer she doubted he was really a policeman. While her husband was submitting to arrest, Witherspoon refused orders to stay in the car and asked the officer, “Do you know my name?” he said no, and she countered with, “You’re about to find out who I am.” Sigh. No. Never do this!
The couple, in Atlanta for a movie shoot, were briefly held before being released on bond. Wed two years ago, they have an infant son together.
A message left seeking comment wasn’t immediately returned by Witherspoon’s publicist, Meredith O’Sullivan Wasson.
