The specialized district court in Riyadh has sentenced 27 out of 29 defendants to jail for propagating “takfiri” ideology (branding fellow Muslims infidels) and for supporting the activities of the group and luring youth into committing terrorist attacks in the Kingdom, in addition to harboring fugitives wanted by authorities.
They were also convicted of raising money from donations to finance terrorist activities, forging official documents and possessing weapons.
Those sentenced include 25 Saudis and two Yemenis.
The defendants were sentenced to prison terms ranging between 4 months to 14 years.
The court rejected the prosecutor’s request to issue a death penalty on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 10th, 11th and 17th defendants due to lack of evidence.
