SAN DIEGO: Ryan Braun and Yuniesky Betancourt each homered in a five-run first inning as visiting Milwaukee cruised past San Diego 7-1 for their eighth straight victory.
Braun added a run-scoring single in the fifth and Kyle Lohse (1-1) pitched five innings before leaving with a dislocated pinkie on his non-throwing hand.
Braun smacked a two-run homer off Jason Marquis (1-2) for his sixth homer of the season and Betancourt delivered a booming three-run shot to left field later in the opening inning. The loss was the fourth in a row for the Padres.
Reds 5 Cubs 4 (13 innings): Cesar Izturis drove in the winning run to cap a three-run rally in the 13th inning as hosts Cincinnati won for the seventh time in eight games on their homestand.
Jay Bruce homered and added a two-run double to tie it at four in the 13th for the Reds.
Chicago took the lead on Luis Valbuena’s two-run homer in the top of the 13th, but Michael Bowden (0-1) could not hold the lead as the Cubs lost for the seventh time in eight games.
Giants 5 Diamondbacks 4: Brandon Belt hit a walk-off single to score Andres Torres from second base and hosts San Francisco rallied to extend its winning streak to four games.
After Buster Posey tied the score in the eighth with a two-run homer off David Hernandez, the Giants opened the ninth with Torres’ single off Tony Sipp (1-1). Torres moved to second on Brandon Crawford’s sacrifice before scoring easily on Belt’s single to left field.
Sergio Romo (1-1) recorded one out in the eighth for the win for San Francisco, who improved to 9-1 against National League West opponents.
Cardinals 3 Nationals 2: Yadier Molina’s sixth-inning single snapped a 2-2 tie and Shelby Miller matched a career high with eight strikeouts as visiting St. Louis captured the series opener.
Miller (3-1), making his fifth major-league start, allowed two runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings and the shaky St. Louis bullpen made the lead hold up.
St. Louis grabbed a 2-0 lead on Allen Craig’s double to deep center in the third while the Nationals tied the game in the fourth.
Phillies 3 Pirates 2: Jimmy Rollins drove in two runs, including a tiebreaking single in the sixth inning for his 800th career RBI, as hosts Philadelphia won the opener of the four-game series.
Jonathan Pettibone, 22, allowed two runs, six hits and struck out six in 5 1/3 innings in his major-league debut for Philadelphia, who have won three of their last four games.
Pedro Alvarez homered for the third time in five games while Russell Martin also went deep for the Pirates, who had their three-game winning streak snapped.
Marlins at Twins, postponed: The interleague game between Miami and hosts Minnesota was postponed due to inclement weather and will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader Tuesday.
Braves at Rockies, postponed: The opener of a three-game series between Atlanta and Colorado, who share the best record in baseball at 13-5, was postponed because of snow. The game was scheduled to be made up Tuesday as part of a day-night doubleheader.
