Media’s blame game

Media’s blame game

This write-up is in response to the column “Typifying Muslims will backfire” by Seema Sengupta. I totally agree with the writer’s opinion. Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and chairman of the Press Council of India Justice Markandey Katju have also expressed similar sentiments.
Every time a terror attack takes place in any corner of the country, within an hour or two the media name the culprit — a Muslim and belonging to an “Islamic” organization. If this is the pace by which criminals are caught, then the world will be a beautiful place to live in. For the Indian media firms, the aim of being the first in releasing the name of the perpetrator seems to carry more significance than presenting the truth. The forerunners of truth and justice — the media — are gradually losing their identity due to their misuse of “power of information.”
As rightly said by the writer, if this methodology continues, then in long run, it may backfire. - Tasneem Ataullah, By e-mail
