Western expatriates working as chief executive officers in Saudi Arabia are the highest paid executives in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, earning on average $ 35,294 a month. Arab CEOs in the Kingdom are the second-highest earners in the GCC, taking home on average $ 34,452 a month.
According to a survey carried out by Gulf Business on the salaries of Western CEOs in the GCC in 2013, Saudi Arabia was followed by Qatar at $ 34,535, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at $ 32,911, Kuwait at $ 31,307, Bahrain at $ 30,402, with Oman ranked last at $ 28,477. Salaries for Western expatriates in all key administrative professions are on average $ 12,215 a month, according to the survey.
Asian and Arab expatriates in CEO positions earned the most in Qatar at a monthly average of $ 35,178, followed by Saudi Arabia at $ 34,452, and the UAE at $ 31,917, while fourth place went to Kuwait at $ 30,771. They were followed by Bahrain at $ 28,879 and Oman at $ 28,615.
The average monthly salary for Arab expatriates in all key administrative professions reached $ 10,556 a month, the report said.
According to the survey, Arab expatriates get higher salaries than their Asian counterparts, but still much less than their Western counterparts.
