The Department of Zakat and Income Tax (DZIT) plans to finalize an electronic link with government agencies within a month in a move to allow department officials to easily detect tax defaulters, local media has reported.

In a circular addressed to governmental agencies, the department said the electronic linking process will be completed on May 25, and ordered them to furnish the department with regular data to meet the deadline.
Earlier, the Ministry of Finance asked the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs to provide the DZIT with a list of commercial registrations of companies that will enable the DZIT create a database and collect taxes due.
Similarly, the Ministry of Haj has ordered Haj and Umrah service firms to produce zakat and income certificates as a precondition to have their licenses renewed.
