SAN DIEGO: Yonder Alonso scored from third base when Marco Scutaro misplayed Nick Hundley’s grounder in the 12th inning and host San Diego Padres rallied from an early five-run deficit for its third straight win, 8-7 against San Francisco Giants on Saturday.
Alonso hit his third double of the game with one out in the 12th off Sergio Romo (1-2) and moved to third on Jedd Gyorko’s single before scoring when Hundley’s possible inning-ending grounder got past Scutaro.
Joe Thatcher (1-0) worked a scoreless 12th inning for the win.
Phillies 9 Mets 4: Domonic Brown belted a three-run homer to break open the game in the fifth inning and Ryan Howard knocked in a pair of runs as visiting Philadelphia rolled over New York.
Rookie Jonathan Pettibone (1-0) earned his first major-league victory in his second start, allowing three runs and seven hits over five innings.
John Mayberry Jr. also hit a solo homer in the five-run fifth while Michael Young collected three hits for the Phillies, who produced their season high in runs.
New York lost for the eighth time in 11 games.
Nationals 6 Reds 3: Dan Haren turned in six solid innings and Bryce Harper homered as Washington won its third straight over visiting Cincinnati.

Denard Span added two hits and an RBI and Ian Desmond drove in a run for the Nationals, who will try to complete the four-game series sweep on Sunday.
Pirates 5 Cardinals 3: Russell Martin hit a game-tying two-run homer in the seventh inning and later doubled and scored as visiting Pittsburgh rallied after St. Louis pulled starter Jake Westbrook.
Westbrook tossed six scoreless innings but watched as the bullpen gave away his chance at career win number 100.
The seventh-inning rally made a winner of A.J. Burnett (2-2), who allowed two runs in six innings.
Diamondbacks 3 Rockies 2 (10 innings): Cody Ross drove in a pair of runs, including the game-winner with a sacrifice fly in the 10th, as host Arizona won for the fourth time in five games.
The Diamondbacks grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on A.J. Pollock’s solo homer and Ross’ run-scoring triple, but starter Jeff Francis settled in and made it through five innings without any further damage.
The Rockies cut the margin in half on Wilin Rosario’s solo shot in the sixth, and they tied it an inning later when Dexter Fowler doubled and scored on Troy Tulowitzki’s RBI single.
That’s where it stayed until the 10th, when Pollock led off with a single, stole second and took third on Rosario’s throwing error, and scored on Ross’ deep fly ball to left-center to hang the loss on Edgmer Escalona (1-1).
Brewers 6 Dodgers 4: Carlos Gomez had three hits, including a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh, and visiting Milwaukee ended a two-game losing streak against Los Angeles.
Brewers catcher Martin Maldonado added another two-run homer in the eighth, helping starter Wily Peralta (2-1) earn the victory after allowing three runs and six hits in six innings.
Third baseman Yuniesky Betancourt contributed two hits and an RBI for the Brewers, but his fielding error with two outs in the ninth brought the winning run to the plate before closer Jim Henderson got A.J. Ellis to ground out to short for his sixth save.
