Land dispute halts hospital construction

The Health Affairs Department (HAD) in the Eastern Province has received an order from a Qatif court directing it to halt the construction of King Muhammad General Hospital for genetic blood diseases, which was under construction in the Al-Nasirah neighborhood in Qatif.
As’ad Saud, HAD spokesman, said: “A citizen filed a case with the Qatif court claiming ownership of the land plot which was marked for the establishment of a specialized hospital. Consequently, the court has ordered the HAD to halt the construction process, until the judiciary issues a ruling over the case.”
The court ruling poses a challenge to the Ministry of Health, as the hospital project is one of the major health care schemes the governorate is currently undertaking.
Patients with genetic blood diseases in the region are especially concerned as they were looking forward to the establishment of such a hospital, which would have provided much-needed medical services to them.
The hospital is to be constructed in an area spanning 108,000 square meters.
