Pakistan’s democracy

This refers to the article “Testing times again for Pakistan’s democracy.” The law and order situation in the country is getting worse as the country is heading for general elections on May 11. How people’s important right to elect and bring in better government can be exercised freely and fairly when the so-called secular parties — the PPP, the MQM and the ANP —are being attacked by terrorists and cannot campaign freely and openly?
There is a strong possibility that some parties may not wholeheartedly accept the election results, citing pre-poll rigging — for not having been allowed to campaign freely, and their electorate being frightened to come out and vote. This might bring about instability in the country. — Seif A. Somalya, Jeddah
