Al-Yamamah University established the Ghazi Al-Gosaibi chair for Cultural Studies as part of a public awareness and cognitive counseling campaign for various governmental and non-governmental agencies to support sustainable development in the country.
The announcement was made yesterday at a press conference led by Hussain bin Mohamed Al-Firaihi, the University’s president.
He said the university was keen on maintaining close ties with the community and as such, the board of trustees has taken the initiative to be the first university in Saudi Arabia to adopt a project of this kind.
According to him, the Al-Gosaibi chair project has been approved without any opposition, which indicates the public understanding of the importance of the project.
The Board decided to pursue the idea of university research chairs similar to what is practiced at other institutes both in the Arab world and elsewhere in the world, Khalid bin Mohamed Al-Khudair, chairman of the Board of Trustees at the university said.
Outlining the objectives of the project, Muajeb Al-Zahrani, supervisor of the academy, said, this includes the preparation of in-depth research for excellence in literary and intellectual material.
It also works to organize academic and cultural events that would attract prominent National Arabic competencies, in addition to providing development studies and provide social, administrative and economic advice on the most important issues that touch upon the needs of citizens, in addition to partnerships of knowledge and cultural ties to exchange experiences and competencies, he said.
He added that Al-Gosaibi previously served four Saudi administrations in different government positions, including health and the Ministry of Water and Electricity in the Arab world’s largest economy, and was appointed labor minister in 2004.
