Karnataka elections

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh while expressing joy over his party’s victory in Karnataka said that the state has rejected the BJP ideology. Although the prime minister was right in his outburst against the BJP, there is a lesson for the victorious Congress as well. The Congress, which is all set to form the next government in the state, should be careful in governance and should not repeat the mistakes of the previous corrupt BJP government. The Congress party should give important portfolios to honest people. Karnataka assembly election results are a clear public verdict against corruption. A good lesson has been taught to corrupt and communal politicians by the majority of the electorate. Actually it is a big slap in the face of the BJP government whose ministers and a number of leaders were involved in scandals, immoral and illegal activities. It seems that people have punished those ministers who were caught on camera watching pornography on mobile phones during a session of the state legislative assembly. These so-called lawmakers and ministers have brought disgrace to their party — the BJP — and played an obvious role in its humiliating defeat.
This is also a lesson and setback to the supporters of infamous Narender Modi who were projecting him as the future prime minister. Their dream has been shattered.
The new Congress government should discharge its duties sincerely with the full sense of responsibility for the welfare of the people and state. If the Congress government fails to come up to the expectations of the people and follows the footsteps of the previous BJP government, then people would not spare them either.
Let us congratulate the prime minister and Congress leadership for the superb victory of their party in Karnataka. — Zakaria Sultan, Riyadh
