Alyoum and Juicers scored exciting opening day wins in the 4th Annual Almarai Basketball Tournament at the Almarai Head Office Staff Villa basketball court, Exit 7, Al-Ishdihar District here.
The six participating teams paraded in their colorful uniforms and along with the guests, t coaches and assistant coaches were welcomed by Tournament Commissioner Anthony Esguerra during the opening program hosted by the league’s Event Director Enrico Abad.
Almarai Juice Product Group Manager Hassan Wajahat delivered an inspirational message to the audience. Besides being one of the opening day winners, Alyoum was named Best Team in Uniform.
Robinson Real, MVP of last season’s league, led the oath of sportsmanship after which Tournament Chairman Arnulfo Santillan Jr. declared the official opening of the tournament and made the ceremonial toss of the ball as well.
Alyoum cagers underlined their credentials in an emphatic 67-56 triumph over 7 Days team, while the Juicers and L’usine teams offered basketball fanatics a thrilling cardiac game that resulted in a 71-68 triumph to the Juicers.
The tournament enjoys the generous support of Almarai Marketing Division, the major sponsor of this tournament. Helping Esguerra, Santillan and Abad run the event are: Alevers Rosario, assistant tournament chairman; Miguel Alarcon, head of finance; Emerson Mitra, tournament consultant; Daniel Desiderio, graphics and design; and the General Committee officials namely Ace Galleta, Joseph Vilar, Ira John Sumagaysay, Leo Angelo Ferrer, Ernesto Borja and Roland Rojo.
