Stingy defense and great teamwork by Sleep High in the whole game made the difference as it bounced back against powerhouse Samahang Ilokano, scoring a 101-81 blowout while Hidada rallied late in the fourth quarter to hold off PSF 78-72 and get back on track at the weekend in the 2013 Perfetto Basketball Tournament organized by Industrial Sports Association (ISA) at Industrial City Dawa Office (ICDO) court in Industrial City Phase I on the outskirts of Jeddah.
After losing last game, Sleep High played tremendous basketball to knock down Samahang Ilokano. Joseph “The Sniper” Bautista was almost perfect from the field to score 26 points as the best player of the game. Vista scored 16 points, Pupos added 13 all in the third quarter points and Razal added 10 points for Sleep High.
PSF was in full control for three quarters in the game against Hidada but fortunes changed in the final quarter as Khaled muscled his way in the paint to overpower all defenders and finish with 24 big points on the way to the best player of the game award. He got support from Minoza who also had a magnificent game and added 22 points while Yanoc and Pasculado combined for 23 points to help Hidada back in the winning column.
Defending champion Butler trounced Jotun Paints 75-64 for its second straight victory. The former Adamson Falcons standout Darius Guanzon scored 17 points while dishing passes to open teammates, “Daredevil” Dela Paz added 16 points to support him while Michael Greason had 14 and Apostol 10 for Butler.
Meanwhile, Caravan also remained unbeaten in three games in the tournament with a 58-50 triumph over Sofab. John Monding showed a big fighting heart when he scored 17 points to claim best player honors but the most important thing was his leadership and passing skills inside the court. Cayetano contributed 13 points and Caleon added 10 for Caravan. — With input from Janus Napuecas Gella
