Abdulaziz Al-Mulhem, assistant undersecretary at the Ministry of Culture and Information for Planning and Studies and supervisor of the Information Technology Department at the ministry, launched a photography exhibition “Europe in the Eyes of the Gulf”, on Wednesday, in the presence of the Head of the European Union (EU) delegation to Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Adam Colakh.
The EU delegation in collaboration with the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) organized the seven-day event at the National Museum at King Abdulaziz Historical Center in Riyadh, in conjunction with the celebrations of Europe Day marked yesterday.
The exhibition displays around 55 creative photographs of people, landscapes and architectural landmarks in different locations in Europe taken by a number of students hailing from the Gulf region. A panel has judged the images and seven photographers were awarded during the ceremony.
Saudi and Italian folklore dances were also performed at the inauguration ceremony.
In his speech, Ambassador Adam Colakh pointed to the longstanding historical relations between the EU and the Kingdom, emphasizing the EU’s increasing keenness to strengthen cultural relations between the two entities through various social and artistic activities.
Colakh indicated that the National Museum in Riyadh is one of most outstanding museums in the world, as it embodies the prominent heritage of the Kingdom and highlights the Arabian Peninsula’s rich historical landscape.
He expressed his thanks to Prince Sultan bin Salman, chairman of SCTA for the commission’s continuous efforts and cooperation with the EU in promoting mutual cultural heritage exchange.
On behalf of the SCTA, Daifallah Al-Otaibi, general director of the National Museum, spoke on the occasion, welcoming the attendees and highlighting the importance of such events in building communication bridges between the Kingdom and European countries.
