Hilal: Another one that got away
Unfortunately, my predictions were right. Neither Hilal nor Nassr made the semifinals of the King’s Cup football tournament. Nassr lost 3-1 again and Hilal which only needed a 1-0 victory couldn’t keep its 1-0 advantage even though it only needed 8 minutes to achieve that.
I guess they let go of the match and allowed Ittihad to score in the 82nd minute to end their adventure. Hilal players took it easy after their early goal, and were no longer interested to add another to secure their advantage.
As I said, Hilal’s problem with the two legged matches won’t be solved till another management comes along. A badly needed motivation is unavailable in the current president or his team officials nor the temporary coach and so the same situation will only repeat itself later tonight when they meet Lakhweya from Qatar in Riyadh in the second round of the Asian Champions League. Hilal needs to have a big win tonight if it is to survive in the next leg in Qatar next week.
Speaking of Qatar, all three Saudi teams will be up against teams from Qatar in the second round. Aside from Hilal, Ahli also met Aljaish and Shabab against Algharafah yesterday.
Ahli and Shabab are in for a tough match next Saturday when they meet in the King’s Cup semifinal, while Ittihad and league champion Fateh will meet next Friday. Looks like this year’s King’s Cup will be hot. I wish the best for all the teams, and may the best team wins.
