Sleep High streaks to third win; Pepsi, Technoglass bounce back

Sleep High overcame the prolific Jotun Paints trio of Bonion (27 points), Nalagon (21) and Nemitz Dangao (18) to score its third straight victory, 106-85, while Pepsi and Technoglass showed tremendous defense and offense as they bounced back from last weekend losses to prevail over respective opponents in the 2013 Perfetto Basketball Tournament at Industrial City Dawa Office (ICDO) court in Industrial City Phase I on the outskirts of Jeddah.
Sleep High, considered the hottest team in the league, got the most out of one of the best shooters in Joseph “The Sniper” Bautista who had a good shooting night to finish with 28 points that gave him back-to-back best player awards.
Former Jeddah Selection member Abril Mabarit also played well and scored 19 points, Mohammad had 14 points in addition to his rebounding skills along while Pupos and Gemino each scored 10 points for Sleep High.
After a 2-0 start, Pepsi Cola bowed to Samco in its last outing but recovered from that loss for a 3-1 win-loss record, beating Jeddah Road Warriors 85-76.
Starring Mursi Akad, Christian Guimpatan and Gino Cilot Pepsi built a 52-35 lead only for Road Warriors to tie it up 71-71, with less than two minutes to play, after mounting a fightback in the second half.
Pepsi made adjustments after a timeout using a good defense to get the win.
Jeff Angeles lived up to his moniker “The Crossover Boy” as he eluded all his defenders to score 25 points to lead Technoglass to a 75-62 triumph struggling Red Rockets.
Angeles got support from Magbitang who scored 19 points and Fuentes added 15 along with his rebounding and defensive presence inside the paint. Rellores scored 23 points and Mangaliag added 16 for the Red Rockets who still are languishing at the bottom of the team standings. — With input from Janus Napuecas Gella
