Forty-eight companies offering Umrah pilgrimage services are facing an uncertain future following a decision by the Haj Ministry to slash by half the number of pilgrims due to expansion works being carried out in the holy city.
The National Committee for Haj and Umrah has asked the ministry to review its latest decision in recent days. In addition, company owners have asked to meet the secretary-general of the Haj Ministry to discuss its decision and its negative impact on them.
Osama Filali, president of the Haj and Umrah committee, said the meetings were unfruitful and the owners of the Haj and Umrah companies face major losses.
Filali said the 48 companies and the national committee are striving to achieve the goals set by the state. “We are seeking total cooperation from the companies which provide Haj and Umrah services, as well as the Haj Ministry.”
