Cricket must restore its glory (2)

The recent revelations by the Delhi Police concerning the spot-fixing are nothing but a complete drama. Without concrete evidence, the Delhi Police have acted in haste against some IPL players. The Delhi Police’s aim was to create a tsunami in the cricketing world, but the controversy seems to have just fizzled out. Till date, no concrete proof to nail the players has been brought to the fore.
It’s a well-known fact that the IPL is less known for cricket. It is better known for late-night partying, girls, glitz, glamour, product endorsement, Page 3 news etc. The IPL is an event that attracts socialites, partygoers, Bollywood fraternity, dress designers, corporate honchos and media houses. The general feeling is that more money is made by the betting syndicate than the IPL franchisees. The Delhi Police seem to be in a hurry to hog the media limelight. It was unable to conduct any high-tech surveillance like the News of the World did to catch the Pakistani cricketers red-handed.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India is treading on thin ice. No life ban decision can be taken against the arrested players due to lack of evidence. Truth should come out; let the players not become scapegoats. — Bhaskara Sujeet Kumar, Riyadh
