A panel of seven judges selected from national and international companies is set to choose the three winners for the Sirb Award for Best Investment Opportunity on Sunday.
The ceremony will be held under the patronage of Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal.
The Sirb award was announced last month by SIRB, an “Angel Investors Network” established by the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), which represents the BADIR program for technology incubators.
Twenty-five young investors selected from the contest went through a set of workshops and training exercises, which helped them to draft projects and further develop their business models. From these, seven remained as finalists. The top three will be chosen from among them, of which the winner will be awarded SR 200,000, while the runner-up will win SR 125,000 and the contestant coming in at third place will receive SR 75,000.
In addition, all three winners will receive one full-year mentoring in a specialized program.
The competition aims to provide access to finance and support for new entrepreneurs in Saudi Arabia through creating a network where prominent businessmen and angel investors can contribute to the diversification of the national economy and its enhancement as a knowledge-based society.
Nominated projects include the “Hawee” (amateur) project by Anas Dahlawi, the “Newsy” (my news) project by Adnan Musky, “Matjar Mango Jazan” (Jazan mango company) project by Abdulrahman Alsahely, the “Sateer” educational company project by Mohamed Ashgar, the “Alhafer Altoli” (vertical drilling) project by Haitham Bushnaq, the “Soarat” (calories) project by Wael Yar and the “Arab Rooms.com” project by Hattan Ahmad.
