Scouts launch family care campaign

Over 100 scouts here recently launched a campaign to help poor families as part of the worldwide “Messengers of Peace” program.
The peace program is being implemented across the world in collaboration with the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), the World Scout Foundation (WSF) and the Saudi Arabian Scouts Association.
The WOSM’s peace program was launched by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah about two years ago at an international scouts camp held at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Jeddah.
The 10-year program aims to mobilize 30 million scouts across the globe to work for world peace, engage in humanitarian activities and extend possible support to people in need. It assists scouts all over the world to carry out volunteer activities for the benefit of others.
The family care campaign provides support for around 200 poor and needy families in various districts in Jeddah. This is taking place in cooperation with the Ektefaa Women’s Welfare Organization, which has identified those who need financial, social, health and educational support.
Other organizations involved include the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC ) in Makkah region, scouts of the General Directorate of Education in Jeddah, Girl Guides, King Abdul Aziz University’s Rangers and scouts of the General Presidency for Youth Welfare, in addition to other volunteers.
Scouts have also carried out repairs and maintenance work at homes owned by Saudis, and distributed more than 200 food baskets donated by a philanthropist.
The Messengers of Peace’s commissioner for the Saudi Arabian Scouts Association, Jamil Fallatah, told the Saudi Press Agency that the program relies on the support of various charities and organizations.
