Creeping police state

The column “Creeping police state vs. Indian democracy” by Aijaz Zaka Syed was informative but biased.
In fact the police brutality of late has increased manifold in India cutting across religious lines. Poor and powerless people from all communities have been brutalized by police over the years.
The writer has ignored this fact and has focuses only on brutalities committed on Muslims. But for all these years Muslim leaders, journalists, clerics did not protest against the police brutality and did not join hands with others who were protesting against police excesses.
Now when the problem is becoming intense for Muslims, other minority communities are not lending a hand and Muslims are facing the heat alone.
In several protest movements against corruption in recent years, Muslims were conspicuously absent from them. By not protesting when the general public is suffering and waking up only when it affects Muslims, we are getting politically isolated in the country. — Kaleem Kawaja, Washington D.C.
