The Ministry of Commerce and Industry yesterday confirmed Talal Mirza as the chairman of the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).
Mirza and two of his deputies had been elected new officials in elections held earlier this month, but were ousted last Saturday by some board members in what was seen by many as an illegal move.
Mazen Tunisi and Zyad Faris are his two deputies and have also been returned to their positions.
In a letter, Minister of Commerce and Industry Tawfiq Al-Rabiah confirmed the results of the elections which had seen Mirza elected. "We want to strongly emphasize the ministerial decision to form the council of the chamber and the allocation of posts between members."
Al-Rabiah hoped the MCCI board members would work together as a team.
Commenting on the issue, Mirza said he was prepared to put aside any differences and work with his fellow board members.
According to reports, the dispute between Mirza and other board members started last Saturday at a board meeting when Mirza rejected a proposal to reform the chamber's committees.
