Yanbu police has arrested a man accused of counterfeiting Saudi and US currencies. The man, of African descent, was nabbed during an operation where a police informer posed as a buyer who was to pay SR 300, 000 for $ 1.5 million (SR 5.6 million) of counterfeit cash. Police said the man was in possession of counterfeit SR 500 bills amounting to SR 184,000, ink and equipment used for forgery.
Madinah Police Spokesman Col. Fahd Al-Ghannam said the police informer met with the forger in a rest house he rented out.
The suspect confessed to intending to sell the counterfeit money to the informer. The man claimed his passport was with his country’s embassy. Later, he was handed over to authorities along with the seized items.
