Kabayan Food obviously learned its lesson from a dismal performance in the last outing, coming back with a Team of the Week award-winning display during the 12th session in the Sarawat Superstores Thursday Bowling League 9th Season at the Sultanah Center’s Bowling City here.
Kabayan lost the lead, as a result of last-place finish for 7 points the previous week, but regained it just as quickly with the top tally of 26 points.
But it was not easy as Kabayan had to survive a challenge from an OFBC team looking for its breakthrough Team of the Week victory.
The sides were tied on 18 points after the third game with Kabayan edging out OFBC on overall output 2,921 to 2,888 total pinfalls. OFBC settled for second best of the week on 25 points.
Four points adrift was Thumbs-Up on 21 followed by Habagat.
D’ Barkads and Boleros, who both passed Kabayan to be in first and second at the start of the session, were deadlocked on 18 points with Escalera and Bowling City on 9 and 8 respectively.
Novice bowler Tom Langa of Habagat claimed Bowler of the Week honors after shooting the high series of 647 on lines of 209, 204 and 171.
Igna Salgado came good when he had to leading the Kabayan charge with 609 on games of 197, 193 and 216. Rene Martinez and Gerry Mandanas supported Salgado with 555 and 552, while Paolo Allego tossed in valuable 214 and 243 to go with the 170-172 by Rolly Vistal and 213-183 by Mohammad Al Amri.
Ding dela Rosa was the main man at OFBC with a solid 619 that inspired Rudy Jamon and team captain Joel Nidoy to contributions of 597 and 593. With two games each were Robert Stone 177-180, Toto Lim 184-138 and Jerry Carredo 153-169.
Thumbs-Up also had a player to cross the 600-series mark in Ernie Geslani who drilled 620. Alex Flora carded 581, Rudy Valenzuela added 562 and Obie Ycasas had 538.
Rene Punzalan and Sol Cuenca shared the remaining three games on 189-182 and 174, respectively.
Langa was the leading scorer in Habagat’s five-man rotation that included George Mangaliman 578, Ver Jasa 569, Jimmy Aragones 567 and Manny Tibay 520.
