MUMBAI: Mary Kom and Milkha Singh may soon have company. Cricket’s original controversy will return on the big screen, if producer Ekta Kapoor has her way.
An Indian daily reported that the producer and her team signed a contract with former cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin last week, for rights to a biopic on the cricketer’s life. The deal was finalized after a long phase of meetings and negotiations and according to sources, Kapoor managed to beat her competitors with a handsome offer price.
A source close to the developments said, “The final meeting was held at Bandra five-star and an official announcement is expected any time soon. The film will start rolling later this year.”
Though it is too early to finalize the casting, it is learnt that Ekta has three actors on her wish list — Saif Ali Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.
It is not known who is on her wish list to play the role of Azharuddin's wife Sangeeta Bijlani or for that matter if a certain Jwala Gutta, who the cricketer was briefly linked with, will make an appearance in the frames.
