The Shoura Council yesterday emphasized the need for changing some of the articles of the Labor Law to protect the rights of workers including foreigners.
A Shoura member objected to exempting some groups of the law. “This is not fair and will not serve the labor market. Labor laws all over the world are meant for protecting workers and their rights,” the member said.
He insisted that the protection ensured by the Labor Law should cover all workers.
The Shoura members insisted that the government should take into consideration the security and social dimensions while allowing marriages between Saudis and foreigners.
The Shoura agreed to allow marriage of Saudis with foreigners born and brought up in the Kingdom, if they hold valid resident permits and Saudi birth certificates and lived in the Kingdom for five years continuously.
