As the 2014 general elections in India approach, it has become a newly found fad among the so-called secular section in the country to attack Narendra Modi, the chief minister of Gujarat. The assault on Modi has intensified after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently made him chief of the campaign committee for the scheduled parliamentary elections. Same fear and hate-mongering was stirred up when the Vajpayee-led coalition had won the general elections When the opposition cannot beat the BJP on its corruption-free performance, character assassination and fear mongering take over! Yes, the BJP is an ultra-nationalist majority Hindu party, but the party also has attracted many prominent Muslims.
The BJP has evolved into a truly secular, responsible Indian party. If Modi was very communal as his opponents malign him, then why did he help prosecute many of his supporters for their part in 2002 riots?
But the groundswell of support that Modi rightly enjoys among majority of Indians, the facade of communalism created by the so-called secular and opportunist politicians is not going to stop him from being the next prime minister of India.
If we analyze objectively, it is the Congress party that has played the communal card more than the BJP. The Congress-led coalition government has been very corrupt in its 10 years of rule. Modi is the only national leader who can give India a corruption-free government. — Seif A. Somalya, Jeddah
