The Federation of Kerala Associations in Saudi Arabia (FOKASA) has called on the Indian Embassy to take steps for ensuring monetary compensation to Saraswathy Kalappara, the housemaid who died here at King Fahd Medical City on March 28.
FOKASA has accused the embassy of delaying the repatriation of the maid’s body and playing politics with Indian nongovernmental organizations in Saudi Arabia.
The NGO has sent a letter to the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs seeking monetary compensation and requested the embassy to publish the progress of its investigations.
“The embassy has only written to the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Other than this, the embassy has done just the normal procedures for sending the dead body to India,” FOKASA said, criticizing the role of the embassy.
Nearly a month ago, when FOKASA complained about the delay in sending the body to India, the embassy said that it will investigate the cause and circumstances of the death of Saraswathy and the role played by the people who demanded speedy repatriation of the body.
Last week, the NGO in a statement said that the report of the embassy did not mention its efforts to send the body to India for cremation.
Eighty-four days after her death, the body of Saraswathy was flown to Kerala at the expense of the Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF).
