The voice of India

This article on Partap Sharma by Farouk Luqman was very informative and shed light on the achievements of Sharma immensely. Indeed, Sharma was a very talented person and he had remarkable qualities as a playwright, novelist, actor, author of history and children books, and documentary filmmaker.

It is not easy to have mastery over multifarious domains, but Sharma had mastery over many fields. He acted remarkably in the role of Jawaharlal Nehru in the movie Nehru, the Jewel of India, and left an indelible mark in the hearts of many Indians.
I had the opportunity to listen to his speech in K.C. College auditorium, Churchgate, Mumbai in 1986, when I was doing my graduation. Also, I had seen him discussing the art of drama with the late actor Shafi Inaamdar, in K.C. College canteen. Indeed, he had very good command of the English language and had an excellent English accent.

I think, in the present time only Bollywood actresses Lara Dutta and Zeenat Amaan can match Sharma’s English accent. Even Amitabh Bachhcan cannot match him. It is a travesty of life that such a talented person was a chain smoker, something that did not allow him to live longer and left him in poor health constantly. However, he showed remarkable courage and did his job judiciously. Also, there is a lesson for us that to achieve things in life, one should be well disciplined and should not take one’s health and environment lightly. - Anees Lokhande, Alkhobar
