Amnesty extended
Four more months are decreed by King Abdullah, allowing more illegal foreigners to correct their work situations. In this very column, it was stated that such a huge country like ours, with nearly 10 million non-Saudis, it is almost impossible to absorb and correct the big number of illegal laborers on such a short notice.
Thus, Nov. 3, 2013 is the last chance for correction. This is also another chance for embassies to handle the situation better. They should decrease the laborers’ agony and process the required paper work faster. Non-Saudis who are reported runaways will have a second chance to correct their situations. They should make the right choice now. Do they really want to be drivers, farmers, mechanics, etc.? The wrong work choice shouldn’t be made twice.
The procedure in short: Sponsor’s (Kafeel) letter, payment of fees (SR 2000), embassy (new passport + fees), dropping escapee report, and then a new legal residency license (iqama) is issued. This is the best and only way to keep your rights and keep the rights of all Saudi citizens who wish to live peacefully and safely.
