The Riyadh police recently arrested a five-member gang of expatriates which allegedly robbed the sales representative of a national company of over SR 500,000 and checks valued at SR 1.65 million at knife-point.
The robbers were two Yemenis, an Egyptian, a Syrian and an Ethiopian. The sales representative is a Yemeni national.
The Yemeni employee told investigators that he had left his company office around 8 p.m. with the money and checks and was accompanied by another colleague, a Pakistani, who drove in a separate car.
On their way to the bank, four people in two small cars waylaid them and snatched the bag containing the money and checks after threatening them with a knife. They fled the scene using another car which was trailing them, police said.
According to police, the accused admitted to have chalked out a plan to commit the robbery, and had stolen the two cars to carry out their operation. The five carried out the robbery and were to share the booty among themselves.
Investigations are still going on with the suspects to unearth their possible link with similar incidents. They will be produced before a court as soon as procedural formalities are completed, police said.
