Relatives of a 20-year old girl who murdered her brother in the Hail province are striving to save her from the death sentence.
Some of the victim’s brothers have so far refused to waive their right to qisas (the legal term for retribution) and consent to pardoning her for her crime, according to the eldest brother.
He said that he and most of their other relatives were confident that the brothers would shortly reach an agreement and request the release of the young lady, who is currently in a prison in Hail awaiting investigation and trial.
He said he was trying to convince the others that her execution would not bring their brother back.
The eldest of the siblings added that the nature of the dispute between his brother and the younger sister, which he did not reveal, was sufficient justification for waiving the qisas right.
It was earlier reported that the young woman stabbed her elder brother, 22, on his lower chest after police failed to react to the many complaints she had filed against him.
The man died at a hospital shortly after the incident, according to a police statement, which added that the victim told the police just before his death that it was his younger sister who had stabbed him. The girl was later arrested and sent to Hail prison.
According to sources, the body was in a morgue at the Hanakiyah General Hospital in the Madinah province, which is closer to the town of Safeet than Hail. The legal medical department has decided to postpone the burial of the body pending investigative procedures.
