Midday work ban to be enforced

The Ministry of Labor has vowed to inflict heavy sanctions against enterprises and individuals who violate the ban against laborers working in midday sun. According to the ministry, violators face fines up to SR10,000 and risk the closure of their establishments for 30 days, in addition to other penalties.
The ministry stressed it would continue enforcing the law, which prohibits laborers from working under the sun from noon until three in afternoon during the first half of July until the end of August every year.
The ministry’s decree does not include those working in oil and gas companies and those working in maintenance field. However, provisions must be made to ensure their safety given the scorching heat.
In addition, the ministry has placed announcements in most local newspapers urging establishments to take precautions to protect laborers.
