The Jeddah Municipality has intensified its efforts to curb unhygienic and substandard food outlets in the city, with particular emphasis on the sale of fresh meat.
Besides checking the quality of meat, the municipality has taken up random inspection of shops to check whether the butchers are clad in proper uniform and possess the required health cards.
Apart from restaurants and commercial kitchens, the municipality has been continuously conducting inspection of meat shops and slaughterhouses. During raids on some private slaughterhouses and meat shops in Liabah district in south Jeddah on Wednesday, officials seized 64 sheep and imposed fines totaling SR70,000 on those who had violated health norms, a statement released on Thursday said.
