The Social Security Agency (SSA), an affiliate of the Ministry of Social Affairs, has deposited SR139.38 million in the accounts of the beneficiaries of the social security program within the cash assistance for food program for the current month of Ramadan.
According to ministry spokesman Khalid Al-Thibaiti, the funds were deposited based on the number of family members benefiting from the program in addition to their basic pension funds.
He said the program is being implemented in line with a royal decree which stipulated that the size of a family benefiting from the cash assistance program for food be raised from eight to 15 members and a decision made by the minister of finance for allocation of SR4.5 billion to boost the social security programs.
He said the cash assistance for food program is one of seven programs aimed at supporting needy families. The other programs cover home furnishing, school supplies, paying part of electricity bills, health insurance, production projects, and home restoration projects.
The programs are separate from regular monthly benefits, he said.
Eligible beneficiaries of the social security program include widows, orphans, deserted family members, and people with temporary or permanent debilitating health conditions and disabilities.
