This refers to Laxman’s letter, “Biased approach.” (July 20).
I fail to understand why Laxman feels that Aijaz Zaka Syed’s articles are biased. Is a single word in his article wrong? Yes, it touches the raw nerve of the proponents of Hindutva movement. Many people feel that there is organized, well-planned campaign to silence the sane voice of people like Aijaz.
Modi’s comment giving analogy about puppy and the massacre of innocent Muslims of Gujarat shows his apathy toward the whole tragedy in which he and his cronies were involved. Laxman bemoans those killed in Sabarmati train fire and Aijaz not writing about them. He should know that deterrent punishment was given to the people responsible by Indian courts. While Aijaz writes about the real culprit of Gujarat riots who are still free and spreading the communal venom.
It is a blatant lie and whitewash that Muslims in Gujarat are prosperous than their counterparts in other states and they voted for Modi in large numbers. Muslims in Gujarat and the sensible, unbiased world will never forget the crimes committed by Modi and his political machinery and this is why Aijaz will keep writing and Modi brigade will find his writing biased. — Abida Shakoor, Jeddah
