US law enforcement authorities released Saudi national Zeyad Abaid, a student in Central Missouri University charged with hiring his roommate to murder a bar owner.
Abaid, 24, was detained last Sept. 5 after being charged with premeditated murder and armed criminal action. The charges were dropped after the key witness changed his testimony. The case gained wide media coverage when the judge refused to grant bail.
Zeyad Abaid was an aviation student at a university in Warrensburg in Johnson County in Missouri.
Local police arrested him on suspicion of conspiring with Reginald Singletary Jr., 27, to kill William Plain Whiteworth, 24, outside the house of Whiteworth’s parents.
Police said in a statement that Singletary admitted to killing the victim because his roommate, Abaid, paid him to do it. Abaid could have faced life imprisonment or execution if he was convicted of the crimes.
