If you are a non-Muslim living in Saudi Arabia what are your impressions of Ramadan time?
Richard Magero — It’s a tradition here and my Muslim brothers are very generous at this time especially during breaking the fast.
Toni Riethmaier — Official work takes twice as long! All in sleeping mode!
Kalman Khalil Pipo — I was in KSA last year for Ramadan and I really enjoyed it. I fasted during the day (my work hours were also split) so that I could experience Ramadan as much as I could as a non-Muslim. People were in a friendly and personable mood, and were very kind. My friends invited me for iftar and I experienced a wonderful hospitality and could feel the good will of people all around me. Now back in New York, I find myself missing it this year, but am sharing it through my friends back in KSA.
To add: The pace of life slowed down, which I think is a good thing, so that people can make a sacrifice, and also appreciate what is really important in life, like family, friends, and being charitable to others. Doing it for a month really reinforces all of these things.
Sumesh Meethal — There are some delay in official works getting done, except that everything is good. We do respect these traditions and putting efforts to be a part of it.
Richard Kot — This is my first experience as a non-Muslim during Ramadan and I greatly admire the sacrifice that my work colleagues make. Although work hours are reduced I have found my colleagues in good spirits. The change in shopping hours to me is irrelevant in the scheme of things.
