Jeddah volunteers distributed Eid candy and toys to less fortunate children in Karantina area of south Jeddah.
The project was organized by the Young Initiative Group (YIG), a Jeddah-based volunteer group.
This annual tradition started in 2011 and every year volunteers head to the same area and distribute Iftar to the neighborhood and in Eid they give away candies and toys to their children.
“It an effort to help those young children feel the eid joy with its real tradition of giving away candies and toys,” said YIG member and Karantina team leader, Mohammad Aman. “We will continue doing it because the faces of those children are priceless and we love seeing them happy and smiling because of this good deed,” he added.
New YIG volunteer Abdulrahman Shata said he enjoyed volunteering in iftar Sayem 4 project so much that he wanted to get more involved in it during Eid.
“A small number of the volunteers went to the supermarket and bought around 15 kilos of candy and plastic wraps. We started wrapping seven colorful candy pieces in every gift wrap and tied it in ribbons,” he said. “It took us a whole day to wrap 450 candy wrapper and put them all in boxes to be ready for distribution after giving away iftar meals.”
For the first time this year, the volunteers distributed gifts to orphanages in the area.
“We did not know the orphanage existed until one of the young men living there informed us and so we paid them a visit and counted the number of children and decided to include them in the same Eid giveaway,” said YIG volunteer Mohammad Kamel. “We wrapped brand new toys and candies just for them. We want them to enjoy Eid and dress up in new clothes that we also provided them with.”
