The Philippine Embassy issued an advisory this week to all Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Yemen to take the necessary precautions due to security threats in the country.
“In light of the reported security threats in Yemen, Filipinos in all regions of the country are advised to take extra precautions and be more cautious of their surroundings and to adopt appropriate personal safety measures,” Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago said, who is also accredited to Yemen.
He added: “Filipinos are also advised to avoid places of unrest as well as large gatherings and at all times avoid being around potential targets.”
The Filipino envoy further advised them to monitor the news and regularly visit the embassy’s website at http://www.philembassy-riyadh.org to be apprised of current advisories and other relevant information.
He also cautioned compatriots that they should also ensure that they have valid and proper documentation or identification papers specially passports.
“Furthermore, Filipinos should also ensure that they have valid residence and working permits in Yemen to facilitate obtaining exit visas when required,” he added.
It was reported on Wednesday that Yemeni authorities foiled an attempt by militants affiliated with Al-Qaeda to capture oil and gas facilities and seize two key southern ports.
“The Yemeni government ended an Al-Qaeda plot to attack strategic locations in Mukalla and Shabwa,” spokesman Rajeh Badi told CNN, referring to a Yemeni port city and southern province.
