The other side of Lata

Thank you for writing wonderful articles about various personalities from India whom you have met. I enjoy reading about these people. Your profuse and abundant praise of Lata Mangeshkar, her melodious voice, her songs and the people that she worked with and having fans throughout the world has one key ingredient missing. As a journalist, you failed to show her weakness.
This is the same woman who collected money through her concerts all over the world and especially throughout the Middle East and donated the collection for the destruction of Babri Masjid. Her inherent hatred toward Muslims is well known and she refused to work with the legends, like Mohammed Rafi, because of their faith is also known throughout India.
Just bringing this to your attention in case you were unaware of it. By the way, I am an American Muslim whose ancestors were Indians. Although I have no particular feelings (good or bad) about India, Pakistan or Bangladesh, I do, for whatever reason, keep up with the news concerning that part of the world.
Again, my thanks to you for your wonderful stories and my apologies for bringing up the unpleasant truth. I bid you peace. — Usman Madha, by e-mail
