Fair trial for Musharraf

It is time for former Pakistani President Gen. (retd.) Pervez Musharraf to face one of the greatest challenges of his life. The former strongman has been charged with the murder of Benazir Bhutto. He has been charged with murder, criminal conspiracy and facilitation of killing. This is the first time ever in Pakistan that a head of the army has been charged with a crime. Whether Musharraf is guilty or not, the courts and time will decide. What is more important here is maintaining transparency during the trial so as to strengthen democracy and rule of law in the country. The state should provide the former general with all-out support to defend his case. A fair trial of the former president will prove to be a milestone in the political and judicial history of the country. — Shaukat Naeem Ghumman, Riyadh
